Another Industry Milestone for Hibernia Atlantic and Huawei

Posted by vanessa on November 8th, 2011

We are witnessing history in the making with Hibernia Atlantic, and Huawei’s, joint completion of the first 100G transatlantic connection between Nova Scotia and England. This marks the highest capacity connection ever transmitted across the Atlantic Ocean, and it lays the foundation for rest of the deployments encompassing key routes. All of this is part of a massive subsea cable build which will eventually encompass over 5500 km of cable and offer ultra-low transatlantic latencies of under 60 MS RT – another first in the industry.

This large-scale deployment was made possible by in part by Huawei’s OptiX product series, which is a next generation, intelligent, Optical Transport Network (OTN) platform scalable to over 6 Tbps of switching capacity.

Hibernia, Huawei, and its subsidiary Huawei Marine, have an extensive history of providing industry firsts including:

  • First 40 Gbps across the Atlantic
  • First 40 Gbps across a subsea span
  • First to offer 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN-PHY capacity across the Atlantic
  • With the deployment of Project Express in 2012, the first transatlantic build in over ten years offering  the lowest latency available

To view Hibernia Atlantic’s global network map, please visit http://www.hiberniaatlantic.com/documents/HA_StatSheet_0511_000.pdf

XKL’s DarkStar® Optical Transport System Testing Reveals Lowest Latency

Posted by caitlinohagan on October 20th, 2011

XKL announces the results  from its in-depth long haul fiber lab testing, revealing a one-way 400Gbps data transport speed of 8.067 milliseconds on test bed spanning 1650km.  The latency measurement is inclusive of the fiber and DarkStar® optical transport equipment.  The distance of 1650km replicates the round-trip distance between New York and Chicago. These findings show XKL’s DarkStar® optical transport systems achieve the fastest latency available today.

Unlike typical fiber test beds that recirculate a loop of 100km of fiber, XKL runs its tests on the complete route distance of fiber, inclusive of equipment.  As a result, XKL brings the field into its lab to evaluate fiber imperfections and simulate worst-case conditions  commonly experienced in the field. To learn more about XKL and its DarkStar products visit www.XKL.com.
