FCC National Broadband Plan Workshop Features Panel Discussion among Alcatel-Lucent, Allied Fiber, Verizon and Others

Posted by Jaymie Scotto on August 12th, 2009

www.alliedfiber.com – Today, Wednesday August 12, 2009, the FCC National Broadband Plan Workshop brought together a number of prominent companies and industry players to discuss the deployment of Wired Broadband services.  The Commission staff provides the public the opportunity to suggest questions in writing before the workshop as well as online and in person during the discussions.

One industry representative, Hunter Newby the CEO of Allied Fiber had this to say, “Allied Fiber is looking to vastly improve the existing communications infrastructure in America.  We are creating a new and unique, multi-duct dark fiber network initially connecting New York to Chicago and Ashburn, Virginia that will allow users to lease dark fiber through network access in as little as 1-mile increments along this route in order to provide interconnectivity solutions between wireline and wireless network operators.

“On the wireline side the intermediate access will provide all network operators cost-effective, ready-made access to previously difficult to reach places in rural areas including RLEC and cable networks as well as potential data center sites. On the wireless side the intermediate access points will enable mobile operators to gain access to fiber and, or optical transport from providers that service the towers on and along the railroad right of way. It will also provide a fiber-rich base tower from which the microwave backhaul providers can offer high-speed aggregation services to the mobile operators from other surrounding towers in a 5-30 mile radius. This unique network design is meant to serve all, so to be part of these discussions is truly an honor. We firmly believe Allied Fiber will become America’s All-Access Network.”

For more information about Hunter Newby or Allied Fiber, please visit www.alliedfiber.com.  For more information about the FCC’s broadband initiatives and workshops, please go to: http://www.broadband.gov/workshops.html
