Posted by Karissa Campbell on May 2nd, 2012

The world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone and leading colocation provider, Hurricane Electric, has expanded its network to TELEHOUSE America’s New York Chelsea data center. Located in Chelsea at 85 10th Avenue, the TELEHOUSE Chelsea Center boasts best-in-class N+1 power infrastructure and multiple layer security measures to make it a strategic location for wholesale, enterprise, service providers and carrier clients.

“We are honored to have Hurricane Electric extend its network into our Chelsea facility,” states Fred Cannone, Director of Sales and Marketing at TELEHOUSE America. “This expansion allows our customers to easily, cost effectively connect to Hurricane Electric’s global IPv6 network and exchange traffic directly with more than 2,100 different networks and 52 major exchange points.”

Hurricane Electric first deployed IPv6 on its global backbone in 2001. Hurricane Electric’s global Internet backbone is one of the few that is IPv6-native and does not rely on internal tunnels for its IPv6 connectivity.  Hurricane Electric presently connects to more than 1,600 associated IPv6 backbones. In addition to TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea, Hurricane Electric also has points of presence at TELEHOUSE’s Voltaire facility in Paris and Docklands East in London.

“This new point of presence continues our strong relationship with TELEHOUSE as our network continues to grow,” comments Reid Fishler, Director of Carrier Services at Hurricane Electric.  “Colocating at TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea allows customers of TELEHOUSE to exchange traffic directly with Hurricane Electric’s global Internet backbone, while giving them additional connectivity options.”

Posted by Jaymie Scotto on May 1st, 2012

Just shortly after announcing its plans to acquire Arialink, Zayo has completed the purchase transaction. The acquisition adds 930 new route miles to the Zayo network, including 400 miles of dense metro networks in Lansing and Ann Arbor, Michigan. With an extensive network in Michigan, Arialink complements Zayo’s national footprint.

The network will provide Ethernet, dark fiber and optical transport services across a 437 on-net building footprint in Michigan. Through the acquisition Zayo gains a regional long haul network and connectivity to smaller markets in central Michigan.

Arialink recently began the construction of a 190-mile network to interconnect major healthcare facilities as part of an FCC grant to the Michigan Public Health Institute. TELEHOUSE AMERICA DATA CENTERS ACHIEVE SSAE 16 COMPLIANCE

Posted by Caitlin O'Hagan on April 24th, 2012

TELEHOUSE America is proud to announce that its New York and Los Angeles data centers are now SSAE 16 Type 1 compliant, having successfully completed the rigorous independent assessments required of the SSAE 16 standard. The four TELEHOUSE facilities have voluntarily completed a stringent audit of its internal business processes and IT controls, including physical security, environmental security, logical security, and network security.

Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16 is an internationally recognized third party assurance audit designed for service organizations. Unlike SAS 70, SSAE-16 is an “attest” standard, falling under the attestation framework, rather than the “auditing” framework of the SAS 70 standard. Service auditors first must obtain management’s written assertion and then express an opinion on the fair presentation of each facility’s system and the suitability of its design for the period covered by the report.

COMPTEL – the San Francisco Treat!

Posted by DeanPerrine on April 17th, 2012

While I’m not actually attending the Spring COMPTEL show this year (holding down the JS&A fort), the word on the virtual street is that this year’s Spring COMPTEL show in San Francisco has been a wild success to this point. Friends are getting re-acquainted. New friendships are being made. Speakers are speaking – moderators moderating. New and familiar faces around every corner. Most importantly, business is getting done!

Just heard from Tim Kiser (Colo Atl – Colocation – Atlanta, GA) who is attending COMPTEL for the first time. He mentioned that he’s met a lot of folks and listened to a number of insightful speakers. And THAT’s what COMPTEL is about. What was of particular interest to me was just how many people proactively sought face-time with Tim (admittedly making my job much easier). This is a pretty darn good indicator that quality colocation and interconnection are critical to enabling today’s technologies (yes, Cloud, I’m talking about you). Good luck, Tim! Bring me back some stress balls and plastic pens!

Then there’s Optelian (Optical Network Enablers), the COMPTEL veterans. They’re sending mobile pics back to the JS&A home offices while educating booth patrons on the benefits of Optelian’s world-class optical networking gear (which, incidentally, is manufactured in-house, in North America!) Bam! How’s that for speed to deployment?!  Brian Savory, the company’s Business Development Manager, has been busy, ehem, developing business as one would expect from someone with that title. Business, my friends, is getting done!

Telecom pros visiting the Haight…and bringing the love! COMPTEL San Fran is on!

Colo Atl’s Tenant Roster Expanding!

Posted by DeanPerrine on April 17th, 2012

Colo Atl, a leading provider of carrier neutral colocation, data center and interconnection solutions, announces today that O1 Communications, a provider of wholesale and retail SMB solutions and Telesphere, a nationwide managed cloud communications provider, are now colocated in Colo Atl’s downtown Altanta, GA facility.

Established in November 2001, the fully built out infrastructure of the Colo Atl colocation and Meet Me Room (MMR) facility is located on the 5th and 8th floors of 55 Marietta Street in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Colo Atl provides O1 and Telesphere with access to its 70-plus tenants, a “no-nonsense” pricing philosophy, and superior customer service.

As providers of business-class telecommunications services, O1 and Telesphere will be utilizing the Colo Atl facility to colocate and interconnect with key customers and service providers. These connections are the vital links that physically connect O1 and Telesphere to their current customers – and provide opportunities to link to potential customers in an affordable SAS 70 Type II certified facility.

“Access to Colo Atl’s facility in downtown Atlanta is ideal. The redundant power sources, engineering, and customer service are excellent,” stated Todd Miszner, VP of Finance for Telesphere. “Colo Atl’s price points, carrier and tenant roster, and location are reason enough to colocate at Colo Atl, but the company also works with us to make sure we’ve got everything we need to operate smoothly. It’s a nice added touch.”

Designed and operated by Tim Kiser, a Professional Engineer (PE) with over 30 years of experience in the industry, the Colo Atl facility offers industry standard colocation, data center and interconnection amenities in a SAS 70 Type II certified facility.

“We are happy to colocate in the Colo Atl facility. It’s a professionally designed facility run by professionals,” maintains Blaine Reeve, Vice President of Operations for O1 Communications. “We have secured a great rate, along with access to our customers, potential customers and carrier partners. Colocating here was an easy decision.”
