PARALLELS ADDS CLOUDLINUX TO PARALLELS PLESK PANEL 9.5

Posted by vanessa on April 29th, 2010

Launched earlier this year, CloudLinux has made quite an impact on the hosting market. With its innovative Lightweight Virtual Environment (LVE) technology hosters can now have substantially increased control over their shared and dedicated server platforms.  With the CloudLinux OS hosting providers can double the density of shared servers and vastly improve stability. Read below to find out why Parallels is now including the CloudLinux OS in its newly released version of Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 control panel.

Major Hosting Control Panel Provides Native Support for CloudLinux

Princeton, NJ, April 29, 2010CloudLinux Inc., an innovative software company dedicated to serving the needs of hosting service providers, announces today that Parallels has included CloudLinux in its newly released version of Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 control panel. Parallels, a cloud enablement leader, has included CloudLinux as one of the Linux OS options in its newly released Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5, and is available for all 9.X versions of the product. Parallels chose to include CloudLinux because of its Lightweight Virtual Environment™ or LVE technology that is designed specifically for hosting service providers to provide greater density and stability in shared hosting and multi-tenant environments. Parallels is also impressed with the impact CloudLinux has made on the hosting market since its launch in February 2010.

“It makes sense for us to include CloudLinux as one of the native operating systems in our Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 product because it gives our customers the significant advantages of improved performance and stability so they can deliver better services to their small business customers,” said Jack Zubarev, President at Parallels. “Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 is the most feature-rich control panel for shared hosting and, with the addition of CloudLinux, supports the fast industry adoption we are seeing for this product.”

According to Parallels, the Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 is the number one control panel in the world with thousands of applications that deliver the easiest, most profitable and most complete service for virtual, dedicated, and shared hosting providers.

“LVE is a great addition to the Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 features,” states Igor Seletskiy, CEO and Founder of CloudLinux. “CloudLinux can help Parallels deliver the fully integrated and professional experience their customers have come to expect from a major virtualization and cloud computing leader.”

What makes CloudLinux so attractive to hosting providers is its core technology Lightweight Virtual Environment™ which is a kernel-level technology that limits the amount of resources (CPU, I/O, memory) available to a group of processes. With LVE, administrators have the tools to control the CPU and IO demands of individual tenants, so that a single site cannot slow or take down a whole server. While similar in approach to container virtualization, LVE is lightweight and transparent. The LVE level fair-share CPU scheduler makes sure that each account gets enough CPU resources to run efficiently. This innovative CloudLinux OS technology offers service providers increased control as never realized before with traditional OS.

CloudLinux OS provides additional benefits to Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5 users including:

  • Innovative lightweight and transparent LVE technology that increases server stability and performance
  • Decreased downtime
  • Ability to allocate resources to individual server tenants efficiently
  • Increased control over traditional OS
  • Complete, 24/7 support
  • Compatibility with the major control panel for easy management and deployment

RIM’s Blackberry, the iPhone and the Executive Market

Posted by Jaymie Scotto on April 14th, 2010

Research In Motion’s revenue and device shipments were up in the fourth quarter of 2009, but analysts worry that the companies days at the top of the executive smartphone market are numbered as they succumb to pressure from competition.

“Weak offerings in touch (phones) and 3G leave the company heavily exposed to a slew of new smartphones now hitting the executive market,” Ed Snynder, an analyst with Charter Equity Research. “While it will certainly maintain its lead in email-based smartphones, we see little chance it can sustain its market share, pricing or margins long-term.”

Stiff competition is forcing prices down for Blackberry and some analysts see this as a warning sign. But Research in Motion have just confirmed that their Senior Director Enterprise Rory O’Neil and VP EMEA Robert Dempsey will be announcing at this year’s illustrious CIO EU Summit a “call to arms” against iPhone for the lucrative executive market.

The CIO EU Summit (Held by GDS International in Vienna), is a closed union, hailed as the voice of the European IT industry, where (once again) the most exclusive and exciting advances are announced first to the illustrious body of only fifty attendees chaired by Mike de Boer, CIO GE Capital Global Banking, Bradley Yorke Biggs, CIO, Aston Martin, Raul Suarez, CIO, Pepsi and ‘probably the best in the world’ Herman Epstien, CIO, Carlsberg . The CIO Summit invited RIM to share their thoughts on leadership in Enterprise business.

“It is no secret that the future of all IT is essentially mobility. It’s pretty clear that the trend toward anytime / anywhere computing is growing, as we topple technical and, perhaps more importantly, cultural & social barriers,” a spokesman for the CIO EU Vision committee stated.

No matter what the job, many professionals are now free to work wherever it’s most convenient, comfortable and appropriate – from the office to the home, and from the back of a Taxi to a park bench. And the key to all of this is bringing the services of the network – whatever IT has to offer – to where they need to be and with Apple, HTC & Palm hot on their Heels, Blackberry remain certain they are the Business Mobility Device of choice for the Enterprise Market and feel “It is less about having an ‘Ap’ for everything, and more about having the right ‘Ap’ for you”!

JS&A Clients featured in Equinix Ethernet Launch – Hibernia Atlantic, PacketExchange, Tinet

Posted by vanessa on April 12th, 2010

After a successful development program which began in 4Q09 Equinix has now launched its Carrier Ethernet Exchange program globally. The program was developed so that international Ethernet providers and carriers can exchange data traffic to meet worldwide Ethernet services demand which is expected to exceed $40 billion in just 4 years.

With extensive testing across the globe by 24 participant companies the Ethernet Exchange program has proven its flexibility and reach in allowing member companies to deliver scalable Ethernet services across international borders.

Included in the program are companies such as Hibernia Altantic, a diverse transAtlantic high bandwidth connectivity provider; Tinet, a wholesale IP and Ethernet provider; and PacketExchange a next generation service provider with Ethernet, IP and CDN services. With a robust ecosystem of partners and technical content the Equinix Ethernet Exchange also creates a viable online marketplace so that carriers can easily expand their networks into additional regions.

For more information please read below:

Equinix Launches Carrier Ethernet Exchange

Begins Global Rollout Based on Successful Development Program with 24 Participants
Including AboveNet, Easynet, KPN International, PCCW Global, RCN Metro,
Reliance Globalcom and Virgin Media Business

London, England (at the Light Reading Ethernet Europe 2010 Conference) – April 12, 2010 – Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a leading provider of global data center services, today launched the Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange™, a global service that provides a multi-carrier environment for the exchange of data traffic between providers of Ethernet services. Originally announced in October 2009 as a service development program, the Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange is the first service of its kind to be successfully deployed globally, enabling carriers to meet the worldwide demand for Ethernet services, an expanding industry that is expected to reach $40 billion by 2014.

The Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange development program included as participants 24 of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, including AboveNet, BroadbandONE, Easynet Global Services, euNetworks, Exponential-e, Hibernia Atlantic, RCN Metro Optical Networks, Internet Solutions, KPN International, Level 3 Communications, PacketExchange, PCCW Global, Reliance Globalcom, SSE Telecoms, TeraGate AG, Tinet and Virgin Media Business, among others. The service is rolling out to five metros including the Los Angeles, New York, Silicon Valley, Chicago and London metro regions, and is expected to expand to 14 other metro regions throughout the next year.

Equinix’s global platform is a welcome addition to support our internationally recognized leadership position and greatly extends the accessibility of our Ethernet service portfolio,” said Managing Director Carolien Nijhuis, KPN International. “The ability to distribute and support multi-regional Ethernet connections on one central platform will attract more customers who are able to benefit from our high quality services at a more competitive price level.”

This launch is an important milestone for Equinix and for the Ethernet services industry in general,” said Jarrett Appleby, CMO, Equinix. “While the Ethernet market has been growing at a breakneck pace, the full potential has yet to be realized because carriers have been limited to the geographic areas where their networks are deployed. Our offering immediately removes that fundamental barrier, enabling carriers to deliver consistent, scalable Ethernet services across multiple borders around the world simultaneously.

In addition to the official launch of the service, this announcement marks the closing of Equinix’s comprehensive and successful development program. In total, Equinix conducted more than 200 unique tests across seven different regions with 24 program participants, demonstrating the efficacy of the testing program and the long-term commercial viability of the service.

Appleby continues, “The development program for the Equinix Ethernet Exchange was comprehensive, meticulous and highly successful. It speaks volumes that our collaborative development approach netted as many world-class participants prior to launch, underscoring the demand for this service and the tremendous value it will deliver to the global Ethernet community.”

As well as having the potential to simplify the technical complexities in delivering Ethernet services, the Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange also creates a massive marketplace of potential partners,” said Mark Heraghty, managing director, Virgin Media Business. “Not only will that enable us to better support our customers’ needs, but it also means that we have the flexibility and scalability needed to add or expand our overall service offerings.”

Fully compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum standards, The Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange removes the technical boundaries associated with offering Ethernet services by providing a platform for multi-provider carrier Ethernet interconnection. In addition to the technical platform, the offering also includes access to a rich ecosystem of potential content and technical partners, creating an online marketplace that enables carriers to seamlessly extend their global reach and depth. The service enables carriers to translate between different carrier Ethernet offerings to ensure transparent service by providing an interconnection technical specification.

Pricing and Availability

The Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange is available immediately in the following markets: Los Angeles, New York, Silicon Valley, Chicago and London. Subsequent rollouts and additional regions will be announced throughout the year. For full pricing details, please contact your Equinix Account Manager or contact us at ethernet@equinix.com.

MegaFon, the first and only carrier to launch its own network in all regions of Russia, has chosen Arbinet’s PrivateExchange to improve global interconnect efficiencies for its voice termination.    An outsourcing solution that enables retail service providers and carriers to aggregate multiple voice interconnections into a single TDM or VoIP interconnect with Arbinet, PrivateExchange is a strategic part of MegaFon’s action plan for developing the mobile telecom operator’s “international footprint.”

Using PEX to build virtual direct routes to its international correspondent carriers, MegaFon can improve port utilization and network efficiency.

States Konstantin Solodukhin, MegaFon’s Deputy General Director for Fixed Line Business Development and Interconnection. “It was our strategic decision to focus on interconnection with incumbent carriers and find an integrated solution for the rest of international voice wholesale. Arbinet’s PrivateExchange allows us to use less company resources on handling those interconnections as well as to keep independence in choosing partners for traffic exchange and focus on negotiating better rates and achieving better quality for our customer calls.”
