Posted by Ilissa Miller on August 17th, 2009

It’s big news when you’re the first to offer a big pipe.

FCC National Broadband Plan Workshop Features Panel Discussion among Alcatel-Lucent, Allied Fiber, Verizon and Others

Posted by Ilissa Miller on August 12th, 2009

www.alliedfiber.com – Today, Wednesday August 12, 2009, the FCC National Broadband Plan Workshop brought together a number of prominent companies and industry players to discuss the deployment of Wired Broadband services.  The Commission staff provides the public the opportunity to suggest questions in writing before the workshop as well as online and in person during the discussions.

One industry representative, Hunter Newby the CEO of Allied Fiber had this to say, “Allied Fiber is looking to vastly improve the existing communications infrastructure in America.  We are creating a new and unique, multi-duct dark fiber network initially connecting New York to Chicago and Ashburn, Virginia that will allow users to lease dark fiber through network access in as little as 1-mile increments along this route in order to provide interconnectivity solutions between wireline and wireless network operators.

“On the wireline side the intermediate access will provide all network operators cost-effective, ready-made access to previously difficult to reach places in rural areas including RLEC and cable networks as well as potential data center sites. On the wireless side the intermediate access points will enable mobile operators to gain access to fiber and, or optical transport from providers that service the towers on and along the railroad right of way. It will also provide a fiber-rich base tower from which the microwave backhaul providers can offer high-speed aggregation services to the mobile operators from other surrounding towers in a 5-30 mile radius. This unique network design is meant to serve all, so to be part of these discussions is truly an honor. We firmly believe Allied Fiber will become America’s All-Access Network.”

Lexent Metro Connect – New York’s Finest Low-Latency Dark Fiber Network

Posted by Ilissa Miller on August 1st, 2009
The New York Times Article

The New York Times Article

On July 24, 2009 the New York Times (NYTimes.com) ran an article on the impact of high-frequency trading to Wall Street firms profits. The highly profitable high frequency trading methods rely on powerful computing systems executing orders at light speed. These new trading procedures are made possible through ultra-low latency networks such as those built and leased by Lexent Metro Connect.

More and more companies are touting the virtues of their ‘low latency’ network solutions, but not many of these companies have the full control, proven measurement and flexibility of its network offering that Lexent Metro Connect provides. Lexent’s state of the art, custom-built dark fiber network has been engineered to optimize low-latency routes geared towards the financial community.

This allows end-users the ability to further customize its network, particularly the ability to leverage the latest technology as well as provide the flexibility to increase its network requirements on-demand.

logo_no_nyc_skylinesmallFor many years, Lexent Metro Connect has successfully migrated global financial companies onto its custom, dark fiber network, in order to provide its customers direct connectivity to such prestigious trading facilities as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as well as a variety of Financial Exchanges available throughout the NY metro area.  For years, Lexent has continued to consult with global financial companies educating, illustrating and installing ultra-low latency dark fiber networks that provide companies with fast connectivity, the difference of only a few milliseconds. Using Lexent Dark Fiber, these financial companies are able to further optimize their networks through complete control of transmission equipment, switching gear and routers. To Lexent Metro Connect, there is no secret to the virtues of an ultra-low latency network.  For years, the company has painstakingly constructed its New York Metro network using the top-of-the-line fiber optics and quality glass, installed along specific routes to ensure its end-users the shortest distance, redundancy from other network providers (mainly the incumbents) and enhanced connectivity to the most relevant buildings.  The result has provided Lexent’s customers’ access to over 100 buildings in and around the NY metro market to serve end-users as well as providing connectivity to 100’s of service providers that offer wholesale global connectivity solutions, primarily available in data centers, colocation facilities and carrier hotels.  Now nearly all networks in the New York metro area are available through Lexent’s custom, resilient and reliable  low-latency dark fiber network.
