DEALCENTER HIRES DR. JOHN SCHAEFER AS DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Posted by Ilissa Miller on April 21st, 2009

DEALCENTER HIRES DR. JOHN SCHAEFER AS DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TO

FURTHER FOSTER THE COMPANY’S GROWING PRODUCT LINE

NEW YORK, NY– April 21, 2009 – DealCenter, LLC, the online social networking and meeting planning system for trade shows, expos and online communities, announces today the addition of Dr. John Schaefer as its new Director of Business Development.  Dr. Schaefer brings nearly twenty years of experience to DealCenter, including business development, sales, technical expertise and extensive client relationship management.

Dr. Schaefer is a valuable addition to the DealCenter team as the company enters a key period of new growth and software innovation.  Within the last quarter alone, DealCenter has deployed four new online meeting planners for attendees and exhibitors attending telecommunications trade shows and conferences.  Additionally, the DealCenter 24/7 product, an online networking and communications tool for industry-specific and intra-business communities, has been deployed on TMCNet’s Dark Fiber Community, hosted by Allied Fiber. The company’s latest growth is a direct result of conferences and online communities need to illustrate trackable ROI, including the number of total meetings pre-planned and conducted, during this tight economy.  With this new growth, DealCenter continues to court the best and brightest in software technology and business development, including Dr. John Schaefer.

Prior to joining DealCenter, Dr. Schaefer founded and developed Paradux/Concepts, LLC for nearly 14 years, managing over 150 employees and developing over 550 software products and web enabled applications.  His company was then acquired by a partner of Computer Associates (CA), Inc. in 2001, and in 2004 he then joined CA, Inc. as a direct hire.  He has spent the last four years ensuring a successful transition and integration of CA’s North American Professional Services and Education P&L as VP and General Manager.  Dr. Schaefer was also responsible for revenue generation, maintaining sales budgets and creating forecasts to meet the financial goals established each fiscal year.  He was awarded the CA Technology Services “Best Partner In The Business Award” two years in a row for exceeding sales and customer service targets.

I am excited to be part of the DealCenter team as we move forward, and thank Jaymie for appointing me to this position.  In the current economic climate, I believe corporations are looking for clear ROI benchmarks no matter how small the capital investment.  I believe DealCenter has the capacity through it’s inherent level of dynamicism to manage strategic, innovative, interactive digital and real time connections before, during and after an event.  DealCenter provides a Return On Attendance (ROA)  that provides the necessary tools for identifying new business opportunities while attending industry conferences and conventions.  Further through our DealCenter 24×7 application, we can extend the ROA to harness the power of the Internet to continue to manage, follow-up and further network online.  I believe through this accessibility it becomes possible to make business networking a transparent part of the business culture.  Quite frankly it makes good business sense to network online.” states Dr. Schaefer.

“The growth of DealCenter and its expanding roster of partners and clients demand that an additonal experienced professional with a relevant background in sales, marketing and new technology be added to the team,” continues Jaymie Scotto, CEO of DealCenter, LLC. “After reviewing hundreds of applicants, we decided that John shares our vision for the DealCenter platform, both today and tomorrow, and understands the possibilities for the system to be the next ‘must have’ tool for companies and event planners who require the first and best online social meeting platform.  We are proud to have John on board and look forward to the many future DealCenter innovations and deployments.”

Insight to the Happenings at JS&A

Posted by Ilissa Miller on April 18th, 2009

A PR Pro’s Weekly Round-Up – for the week ending April 17, 2009

April 18, 2009 – Another busy week at JS&A!  As our company grows and our client’s needs expand, we are busy adjusting to ensure that we continue to work hard while providing quality work and meeting our deadlines.

It’s Saturday night, just after 10:30pm and I’m sifting through emails and researching information to help us tackle the week of April 20th!  But alas, I am ahead of myself – this is a round-up blog, so here  is a glimpse at some highlights from the week:

Monday – April 13th

Arbinet announces the appointment of Robert M. Pons to the company’s Board of Directors while also appointing David Reymann as Chair of the Audit Committee.

JS&A’s Article about the history of the first TransAtlantic submarine cable was posted online to TMCNet’s Dark Fiber Community, sponsored by Allied Fiber.

Tuesday– April 14th

Mzima announces that “Corelink Data Centers Selects Mzima Networks To Connect its Phoenix, Las Vegas and Seattle Facilities With a High-Performance Transport Network.”

Wednesday – April 15th

I overlapped calls again!  And how lucky was I that one of the calls got postponed (did I know that was going to happen all along?)

Facilitated two client media interviews while also participating in 2 client weekly calls – I just realized that’s half my day right there!

AND delivered, 2 days early, a client’s request for a 6 month summary of activities.

Deal-Center is open for the Telx CBX 2009!

Thursday – April 16th

Uh-oh, I didn’t plan this day as well as I could have.  2 personal appointments scheduled, but luckily – as I showed up 45 minutes early for the first one, it was done within 30 minutes, providing me ample time to be completely available for clients.

And, I was also able to take a quick prospect call and managed to schedule a more detailed meeting for next week.

More research, outreach and PR strategic thinking – still have a lot of writing to do – still.

Oh and that Exclusive Media Event we’re helping to plan for our client, two more journalists in!

Friday – April 17th

The 3rd ITW delegate newsletter is sent out.

Mzima Networks offers Streaming Media attendees $200 off registration and/or unlimited FREE expo passes – The conference is May 12-13, 2009 in NYC.

Much of the afternoon was spent tying up loose ends and working on projects started earlier in the week, but I have to admit, with the hoopla over Ashton Kutcher’s win over CNN Breaking News to be the first to get 1 Million followers on Twitter distracted me (twitteraire, twittermillionaire – the phrase will be coined soon!).  In case you missed it, you can still follow them on twitter:  @aplusk (Ashton Kutcher) and @cnnbrk (CNN Breaking News) and just in case you were curious – @Oprah is on now too – inspired by Ashton Kutcher – Twitter is still a business tool – really.

Back to business though, late afternoon a new project came in.  And we all know what that means, right?

Writing?  Oh yeah – still have the weekend.

Saturday – April 18th

So, here I am.  Now after 11pm plugging away; no I did not write this in 30 minutes, late at night I have a tendency to multi-task.  Sorting through and filing emails, today we switched our servers.

p.s. In the company’s switch to a new mail server, I lost all of my calendar entries.  I’m re-building as much as I could now, but please accept my apologies in advance if I happen to have forgotten a commitment with you.

p.s.s. I would have contacted you, but with the change over to our new email system, I forgot to save all of my contact details, and that could have been you.  So please – send me your details again, an outlook version is more than acceptable!  Email me at Ilissa@jaymiescotto.com

p.s.s. Just got an email from a co-worker, guess I’m not the only one crazy enough to spend my Saturday night working!

p.s.s.s. My 2 writing projects?  There’s still Sunday and Monday, right?

11:23pm and will begin to post

11:33pm and about to post

150 Years of Transatlantic Communications: Looking Back to Look Forward

Looking Back to Look Forward: 150 Years of Transatlantic Communications

 By TMCnet Special Guest
Jaymie Scotto and Ilissa Miller , Jaymie Scotto & Associates

It’s amazing to consider all the technological innovation within a relatively short amount of time, and the resulting impact on our lives from this technology. It was only 150 years ago since the first Atlantic submarine cable was completed, connecting Trinity Bay via Newfoundland to Valentia Island in Ireland. Although the subsea cable laying is still an arduous, expensive and sometimes dangerous task as it was then, the key differences in today’s cable is the quality and the sheer quantity of information that can be sent through links underwater.

In August of 1858, the first transatlantic message was sent over the new link from Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom to the United States President James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States, who served right before President Abraham Lincoln. The message was 99 words and took 12 hours to send. The cable that carried this message sent only 400 messages before it began to fail, just 23 days after it initially went live. Today, Hibernia Atlantic (NewsAlert), a privately held Trans-Atlantic submarine cable network that provides “Security through Diversity” to European and U.S. customers, can send the entire Library of Congress in only 63 milliseconds over one of their fiber optic submarine cable links and can carry 30 million simultaneous phone calls at a single time. This is modern fiber optic cable system at its best. But modern cables haven’t always linked the continents. The history of the first cable is a fascinating story, almost forgotten if it wasn’t for companies like Hibernia Atlantic that routes its network within the history of the industry.

Security Through Diversity: Multiple Cable Cuts in the Silicon Valley Affect AT&T, Verizon & AboveNet

Posted by Ilissa Miller on April 10th, 2009

April 6, 2009 vandals allegedly cut four (4) AT&T cables in an underground vault, just before 1:30am in South San Jose.  In addition, two hours later four (4) more cables were cut in San Carlos.  These severed fiber optic cables took down AT&T’s network in Silicon Valley, CA, while also affecting Verizon service and AboveNet connectivity throughout the area.  According to information reported by both Data Center Knowledge and Telecom Ramblings, the alleged intentional cut disrupted 911 emergency services in Santa Clara County, in addition to affecting phone – both landline and cellphone and Internet service to tens of thousands of people in the Santa Clara area.

Santa Clara County is considered one of the United States’ major data center hubs. And the greater Silicon Valley is also technology hub, where hundreds of developers, providers, operators and networks converge.

Data Center Knowledge reported that an “AT&T spokesman John Britton told the San Jose Mercury News that it appears somebody opened a manhole in South San Jose, climbed down 8 to 10 feet and cut four or five fiber-optic cables. Britton said the four cables that were cut in San Jose were about the width of a silver dollar and were encased in tough plastic sheath. AT&T is now offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the incident. According to AT&T spokesman John Britton”  North American Network Operators Group (NANOG) has also opened up a discussion regarding the impact in the region, the link can be found here: http://www.merit.edu/mail.archives/nanog/.

Is This A Sign of More to Come?

Telecom Ramblings suggests that though the damage in this case was limited, ‘was this a dry run?’

It is common knowledge that there are major communication hubs throughout the United States where global, national, regional and local networks converge to interconnect with one another.  One of the real concerns should be coming from customers who perhaps should be assured their connections are traversed along protected rings that provide redundancy should there be a cable break, to ensure all communications are re-routed.

Hibernia Atlantic has been preaching about this threat for the past five years, warning the implications of a catastrophic network failure and its impact on national security, the banking/finance systems, communication and broadcast system,” commented Eric Gutshall, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hibernia Atlantic, a client of JS&A.  Mr. Gutshall continues that “Hibernia also stated that there even needs to be national security for submarine cables and Cable Landing Stations, as well as terrestrial infrastructure in major communication hubs.  Our cable is purposely built outside of major metropolitan areas such as New York and London to provide more security as required by our customers.”

According to the company, Hibernia Atlantic has engaged with the Department of Homeland Security to request they view Hibernia Atlantic’s submarine cable system and cable stations as critical infrastructure due to the high-volume of Financial, communication, broadcast, Government and Internet traffic that is handled by the company.

Hibernia Atlantic has designed its network with ‘Security and Diversity’ in mind from day one, knowing full well that a cut of its subsea cable could impact a wide-variety of business communications around the world.   In fact, Mr. Gutshall has presented on the choke points and communication arteries connecting Cable Landing Stations to the metropolitan areas, to the Federal Reserve and 40 key and top members of the financial community.

Cable breaks are not something new, cable systems have been cut before and will continue to be.  However, the key question here is if vandals are on the loose, and if this is a precursor to what could happen, are you sure your communications infrastructure is protected, diverse, secure, redundant and sustainable?  Hibernia Atlantic has been a leader in communicating these issues to both network operators and customers, reiterating the importance of knowing what network services you use and what features make it resilient.   Perhaps Hibernia Atlantic has it right, ‘Security through Diversity.”

International Telecoms Week 2009 (ITW 2009)

Releases the Second Delegate Newsletter

With the announcement last week, on April 3rd,  that ITW 2009 already has an unprecedented number of registered delegates already committed to attend the conference, June 1-3, 2009 in Washington DC, the organizers released its second newsletter to attendees.  One of the key messages conveyed by the organization is to remind attendees to register to attend the meeting, in advance.

With two months to go before the ITW meeting begins, meeting rooms are nearly already sold out.  Over 150 wholesale telecommunication organizations have already taken meeting rooms.  Due to an overwhelming response, the organization also launched a new initiative for 2009 offering companies the opportunity to have a Premium Branded Room (PBR) in the exhibition and bilateral table area.  This provides companies branding promotion outside of a meeting room, while offering meeting space for organizations to generate new leads.   For more information on how companies can reserve a PBR, ITW organizers request that you contact Jasmin Javaherian at jasmine.javaherian@capacitymedia.com

International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2009 Announces an Extraordinary Early Response

Posted by Ilissa Miller on April 3rd, 2009

Today, April 3, 2009, International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2009 announced it has already experienced an extraordinary response to its Global Wholesale Telecom Meeting that is scheduled for June 1-3, 2009 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington DC.

The ITW is a meeting location for global wholesale telecommunication providers, vendors and developers where key executives gather to do business.  It is estimated that by attending ITW, more business can be accomplished in a few days than in many months of effort, due to the overwhelming amount of global companies that participate.

Only 2 months away, the meeting already has over 2,200 individual delegates registered representing over 300 global companies spanning all 5 continents.

An executive meeting of this caliber is even more important as the global economy suffers, since it provides a one-stop-shop solution to meet like-minded business partners and negotiate deals.

This is an exclusive event, primarily for the Global Telecom leaders to execute on key business objectives for the remainder of 2009 and to lay the ground-work for opportunities in 2010.  The Marriott Wardman Park Hotel will be completely dedicated to the meeting, only hosting ITW 2009 delegates. Therefore registration is a must.  You can do so here:  http://www.itw09.com/registration.asp

“We couldn’t be happier with the response ITW has received from the wholesale community,” states Mark Kemp, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Capacity Media, ITW 2009’s organizer.  “Delegate registrations have now exceeded the forecasted numbers for this time of year and we are on track to double our overall meeting participation. This early and eager response speaks volumes about the effectiveness of the event’s format.  ITW 2009 is designed to deliver effective networking opportunities for the global wholesale buyers and sellers of voice and data products and services.  And similar to last year, we will work our hardest to ensure a productive meeting environment for these critical networking opportunities.”
