06 Feb Best of the West – TELEHOUSE America’s LAIIX Celebrates 10 Years as One of Top Peering Exchanges on the West Coast
Last week, the leading data center provider marked its newest Manhattan data center facility, TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea’s first birthday, and this week, it recognizes the achievement of an important milestone by its Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX) as it celebrates ten years! As a major IPv4 and IPv6 peering exchange designed to offer fast, secure network-to-network interconnection points, the LAIIX is a neutral and scalable peering infrastructure for providers of all sizes.
Built on a carrier class, high speed Layer-2 platform, LAIIX offers seamless switching fabrics at two important carrier locations in Los Angeles: 626 Wilshire Blvd. and 1 Wilshire. Internet service providers, carriers and content providers are able to cost effectively exchange IP traffic at speeds up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, which allows reduced transit costs and increases overall performance.
“LAIIX serves as a strategic Internet gateway connecting the United Sates to the Asia Pacific region,” states Akio Sugeno, Vice President of Internet Engineering, Operations, and Business Development. “Its fast switching capabilities offer both primary and secondary IP routing options which ensure advanced peering options for transit providers. With the rapid growth of Internet traffic across the globe, LAIIX continues to be a strategic and robust exchange point.”
TELEHOUSE America also operates the New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), which interconnects with LAIIX. In November 2011, NYIIX exceeded an impressive 200 Gigabits of traffic. It offers connectivity through several key buildings in New York including: 111 8th Avenue, 60 Hudson, TELEHOUSE New York Broadway, TELEHOUSE New York Teleport, and TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea.
